ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Responsible to perform marketing/communications duties in a municipal parks and recreation district
  • Responsibilities include:
    • establishing relations with print agencies, user groups and corporate agents for the promotion of the Park District and other partner organizations
    • communicating Park District programs, facilities, special events, and projects to the external public through articles, special publications, public service announcements, website, social media, electronic message board and public speaking engagements
    • layout and design of publications, ads, newsletters, brochures and flyers
  • Markets and brainstorms for Park District special events, works with the RRC Director and department heads to develop and implement marketing plans for the Park District and Rough Rider Center.
  • Provides communications assistance to the RRC Director and staff of the Watford City Park District.
  • Assist and lead potential special events as assigned by upper management.

JOB DUTIES/TASKS

  • Layout and Design/Brochures
    • Write, edit copy and design Park District brochures, advertisements, flyers, newsletters, business cards, and special publication for internal and external audiences.  Layout, design and package Park District publications and promotional materials, including the Activity Schedules, special publications, special event materials, ads, etc.  Work closely with print agencies to print publications, brochures, etc.
  • Website Updates/Social Media/Calendar
    • Manage Park District website and social media content; write and edit content for sites.  Layout, design and edit content for websites and special events. 
  • Special Events /Community Relations
    • Assist and lead potential special project management. This includes the operations.
    • Work with Park District personnel to communicate upcoming events to the public.  Assist Park District staff with presentations about Park District programs, facilities, and special events.  Arrange and manage contests and exhibits.  Work with appropriate staff to develop marketing plans for Park District parks, programs and facilities. Work with other entities special events management/promotions.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required on a regular basis.
  • Miscellaneous duties and assignments as identified by upper management.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Degree in Marketing or related field.
    • 2 to 3 years of marketing experience
    • OR Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

      Knowledge of

  • Principles and practices of leadership, positive reinforcement, and team dynamics.
  • Principles and practices of facility operations.
  • Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service.
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work.
  • Adobe Illustrator and ability to learn.
  • Ability to utilize commercial printer for banners and other marketing print jobs.

Ability to

  • Lead lower-level staff and volunteers, including training, work planning, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating.
  • Use, operate, and maintain a variety of operational and audio-visual equipment.
  • Assist with the planning and development of recreation and facility policies and procedures.
  • Understand, interpret, monitor, and apply all relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain order and safety in crowded and noisy environments.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and AED, as needed.
  • Perform work as directed in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner.
  • Respond appropriately to changing situations.
  • Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Licenses and Certifications

  • At time of appointment, valid North Dakota issued Driver’s License
  • Completion of American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED training within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment.

Physical Demands

  • Must possess: mobility, strength, and stamina to perform physical work for extended periods of time; to operate a wide variety of cleaning tools and equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. Work activities may be performed indoors and outdoors and may require frequent walking on uneven or slippery surfaces, standing, sitting, running, conducting exercises, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, reaching, making repetitive hand movement, and related physical activities in the performance of daily duties.

    Environmental Elements

  • Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels, wet and slippery conditions, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

    Working Conditions

  • Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
